Fifth programme
 
The program conducted by the Alpha Foundation (Sponsored by ICFAI) in coordination with the State Legal Services Authority, Hyderabad (LSA) witnessed a good response from the poor and slum dwellers of Rasoolpura near Begumpet.

As many as 81 cases including petty criminal, civil and family disputes were registered. Mr.K.G.Shankar, Chief Judge, City Civil Courts-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Hyd; Mr.D.Subrahmanyam, Member Secretary,AP State Legal Services Authority; and Mr.P.Dinakara Rao,Director, Alpha Foundation briefed the gathering about the Foundation’s activities on legal services.

The program was also attended by Sri.Durga Prasad, Additional Director, AP Judicial academy accompanied by about 40 junior civil judges of all the districts, who are undergoing refresher course at the judicial academy, as observers.

Final year law students of various law colleges in twin cities have actively participated as Para legal volunteers at the camp, helping the poor and slum women in filling up the grievance forms and assisting the judges present in the course of hearing of cases. 

Free legal advice was rendered in 54 cases while the other grievances identified for free legal aid are taken up for further processing by the LSA.

 Sixth programme

 
The sixth Clinical Legal Aid Program conducted on 04.08.2007 at Heera nagar (Tallagadda) in association with the AP State and City Civil Court Legal Services Authority, Hyd. was attended by Addl.Chief Metropolitan Megistrate (Vijayalakshmi), Asst.Commissioner of Police, west Zone (Mahendra Reddy), Inspector of police-Tappa Chabutra sri Venugopal Rao and judicial officers who addressed the gathering. The ACP Mahendra Reddy appreciated the initiative of the foundation assured support for settlement of as many as 50 pre-identified petty compoundable criminal cases long pending with in his (west zone) jurisdiction through such camps of the Foundation. Thus it served as a sensitization program for police for the benefit of underprivileged/slum dwellers.

  First programme

As part of Community welfare services we have conducted a legal aid program for residents of fatehnagar slum on 30-12-06 in association with Legal Services Authority (LSA) . Civil judges Shri G.Bhoopal reddy , Shri D.Yedukondalu , Shri G.Ramakrishna and Shri B.S. Jag Jeevan Kumar Secretary DLSA ( Hyderabad) along with judicial officers attended the camp thus ensuring a direct access of law to the slum communities for the following disputes

  1. Money disputes
  2. Family Disputes
  3. Matrimonial disputes
  4. Maintenance Disputes
  5. Child Rights and Human Rights.

More than 350 people have attended the meeting. Judges explained the rights and duties of the citizens under the law.

A team of 15 paralegal volunteers took up more than 60-70 representations from residents and submitted the cases to judges and finally handed over to Legal Services Authority for further processing at their end.

   Second programme

A second Clinical Legal Aid Programme was conducted on 11-02-2007 at Bapu Nagar slum. More than 200 people have attended the meeting. 37 representations were registered and are handed over to the Legal Service Authourity for further processing at their end. Shri T. Venkateshwar Reddy, Administrative Officer of SLSA and Additional District Judge Shri Adinarayanan along with other Civil Judges and Shri Jeevan Kumar, Secretary CCCLSA have participated.

   Third programme

As part of community welfare services we have conducted a Legal Aid Programme for residents of slums of Khairtabad on 24/03/2007 in association with Legal Services Authority (LSA). Civil judges Shri G. Bhoopal Reddy, Shri Y. Jayaprasad, Shri Ramlinga Reddy, Smt. K. Umadevi, Shri Jadjeevan Kumar Secretary DLSA (Hyderabad) Shri Venkateshwar Reddy Admn. Officer along with MRO Shri Chandra Reddy attended the camp thus ensuring a direct access of law to the slum communities for the following disputes.  

  1. Money Disputes – 27
  2. Family Disputes – 11
  3. Property Disputes – 9
  4. Old age / Maintenance cases – 6
  5. Child Rights and Human Rights 3
  6. Compoundable criminal cases – 8
  7. Labour welfare Disputes – 4
  8. Public utility services – 1

There was an overwhelming response to the Legal awareness meeting. Judges explained the rights and duties of the citizens under the law.

At team of 65 paralegal volunteers actively participated in the field survey for a week preceding the event conducted by the Foundation by way of door-to-door campaign in the slums and assisted the slum dwellers in filling up the grievance forms and took up 78 representations from residents and submitted the cases to judges and finally handed over to Legal Services Authority for further processing at their end.

  Fourth programme

A fourth Clinical Legal Aid Programme was conducted on 29-04-2007 at M.S. Maktha slum. The program, though initially scheduled for three hours, 9 am 12 noon, got extended till 2.30 pm owing to public demand. The introductory address by Sri.Jag Jeevan Kumar, senior civil judge cum secretary of Legal Services Authority City Civil Court, Hyderabad. And Sri.Sudhakar, Mandal Revenue Officer, Khairathabad, on the scheme of free legal aid/advice available to the underprivileged evoked a good response and 33 representations for legal reddressal were received and registered.

  5. Old age/widow pension cases - 4
  6. Compensation for causing death by negligence of State agency - 1
  7. State sponsored house for poor scheme related cases - 5

Free legal aid and advice was given by the Legal Services Authority on the spot clearing about 80% of cases relating to Family, Money and property disputes. The MRO endorsed and took cognizance of all grievances related to the State sponsored welfare schemes registered at the camp for expeditious disposal. About 27 Para Legal Volunteers (Law Students) actively participated.

  Seventh programme

Honble Sri Justice Ashok Bhan, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority visited Hyderabad exclusively to take part in the legal aid and Para legal training programs being conducted by the Foundation in association with A.P.State Legal Services Authority on 24.11.07 . The Clinical Legal Aid and Awareness program (CLAP-7th in series) at M.S.Maqtha slum (necklace road side) followed by a lecture on role of NGOs and Para legal volunteers in legal services to ensure access to justice for all by the visiting dignitary at Aditya Court, Banjara hills organized by the foundation, were also graced by Justice.Bilal Nazki, Acting Chief Justice of A.P. and Executive Chairman AP State Legal Services Authority, Justice DSR Varma, Judge, High Court of A.P and Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, Justice S.Ananda Reddy, Lokayuktha; and a host of Senior Judges of High Court of A.P. like Justice Meena Kumari, Justice. P.S.Narayana and Justice Subhashan Reddy along with all the judicial Officers of twin cities & RR District. The program provided an opportunity to senior students of several Law Colleges present at the camp to interact with the target groups on legal aid services. Sri.P.Dinakara Rao, Director welcomed the dignitaries to dais while Sri.N.V.Chalapathi Rao, legal aid Coordinator spoke on expanded scope of legal aid in relation to the ACL concept of education besides health and legal aid services provided by the Alpha Foundation to the underprivileged slum dwellers. Earlier at the slum camp Justice. Ashok Bhan distributed toffees to the ACL children of M.S.Maqtha. About 65 families belonging to Budagajangam community have submitted a common representation to Justice Ashok Bhan at the camp seeking legal aid and services to have their pattas/title on house plots in slums restored and the same are being processed by LSA.
